Rita's Rainbows April 2, 2011

Five years ago today, at the age of 16, Rita Marie Goehner died as the result of a car accident during a rainstorm. Her family, faced with one of the most horrible tragedies we can imagine did something amazing. They decided to honor the memory of Rita, who was an artist, poet, lover of life and humanity, by creating Rita's Rainbows. Rita's Rainbows is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping children in need. 100% of the funds they raise go directly to children and the organizations that help them. All the time, talent and supplies it takes to run Rita's Rainbows is donated. They have provided the funds for transportation for students, tuition, diapers, cribs, toys, food, books, art classes, art therapy, martial arts classes, bereavment counseling, field trips and more for countless children and teens in our community. I couldn't possibly list all that Rita's Rainbows has given to so many people. Click on the link if you would like to know more. But also because we admire the strength and purity of heart it takes to turn unending sadness into something positive that brings unending help and joy to others. Not many people can do what Rita's family has done. So, on the 5th anniversary of the great loss of such a beautiful girl, here's to you Rita. Your spirit lives on.
